San
Francisco Market Street 1905 (West to East toward Ferry
Building)
In 1905, an unknown cameraman filmed a streetcar
trip along San Francisco's Market Street.
The following year, the Great Earthquake
struck, and he filmed the trip again. This
is a five-minute silent film that edits
together excerpts of his two films. Footage
from the Prelinger Archives, edited by Matt
Lake.
San
Francisco Market Street 1906 (West to East toward Ferry
Building)
This film shows the aftermath of the San
Francisco earthquake of April 18, 1906,
and the devastation resulting from the subsequent
three-day fire. The 8.3 magnitude earthquake
struck at 5:12am and was centered along
the San Andreas Fault, which slices through
coastal California.
San
Francisco Market Street 2005 (West to East toward Ferry
Building)
A trip down Market Street 2005, is echoing
the film made a century ago of the same
journey. Not as magical as the 1905 film,
and the street seems to have lost allot
of the hustle and bustle of those days.....Still,
it's amazing to see the difference 100 years
can make.
